Celebrating 30 Years 

The Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill serves over 2,000 families in North Carolina each year, providing a home away from home for families of children being treated at area hospitals. The House offers physical comfort and emotional support through programs dedicated to the well-being of the whole family.

On the heels of a massive $7.6 Million expansion, the House’s 30th anniversary loomed. The organization came to us looking for fresh ideas about how to honor its legacy and thank its supporters at the anniversary gala.

JD’s Story

A home away from home for the Catlin family 

After JD was diagnosed with chronic granulomatous disease, JD’s family had to make an incredibly tough decision: to have JD undergo chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant while relatively healthy.

The family had to stay close to UNC Children’s Hospital for 100 days after the procedure for ongoing treatment. Because of this, JD and his family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. They told us what a special place it is and what it means to their family to have a home away from home, where everything is taken care of.

It was an honor for our team to be able to come alongside the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill once again to tell JD’s story to the world. The feature video made its debut at the Carolina Love Gala, inviting attendees to donate. The video was a huge success, both with attendees and online, generating thousands of views and new engagements.

Our Challenge

Craft a compelling storyline that honors the organization’s history and thanks its volunteers and supporters, to be played  at the 30th Anniversary gala  and distributed on social.

30 Year Anniversary Gala

We knew that we wanted to incorporate stories from volunteers, staff, board members, and families to tell the special story of the House. 

After ten interviews, our team came away with a true sense of the vibrant energy that shines through the organization, and we began work on initial concepts. After multiple rounds, we settled on a storyline that embodies this energy.

The video played to a live audience of organization supporters at The Barn of Chapel Hill with high praise from attendees. After the event, it was published on social channels, where it received excellent engagement. Since this initial success, we have helped the House craft narratives that resonate with the community it serves.
